Bison are huge monolithic creatures, both gentle and irascible. I was once surrounded by a herd in Yellowstone National Park when they caught me on a narrow road with nowhere to hide. I stood facing a small pine tree trunk and tried to be invisible as the entire herd passed around me. I could have touched them as they passed, but I didn't dare even to breathe. It was the most incredible experience to be in the midst of the herd, but one I hope never to repeat!
This bull is going forward with determination, headed to new ground. The title refers to his movement but also to the common phrase and the new directions of my paintings. Introducing the turquoise band to the beast himself signifies my new ideas about things not always being what they seem and seeing the world with new eyes.
