SOLD ~ Mystique ~ 78"x48" ~ Beyond Boundaries, Eiteljorg Museum

SOLD Mystique is my Angel of Mysteries, guardian angel of souls and those who look up at the stars in wonder. She bears the name of my fashion company from the 1980's and is swathed in clouds of pastel organza, a fabric I used often in my bridal gown designs. Jewelled stars float around her head, a reference to my habit of going outside to look at the stars and make a wish before bed each night. Ideas drip like liquid gold from her imagination, while her jewels hold the secrets of the universe in their glowing depths. Her thoughts are in constant motion, emanating energy that is represented by the looping gold pastiglia lines against a deep blue background. 

Mystique is the focal point of my Artist of Distinction retrospective exhibition at the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art in Indianapolis, Indiana. Her bold presence welcomes people to my world in my exhibition titled Beyond Boundaries. She is part of my new adventure beyond the boundaries of all that I've painted before, and beyond the accepted genres of fine art until now. 

The Angel Series
Who are these angels? They are everyone and no-one. They are the essence of us all, our deepest thoughts, our higher selves. They come to the world with flaws and failings, as do we all. They learn, they grow, they begin to see beyond the veil and evolve into enlightenment. The bindings hide their inner truths, hold in the pain, but also protect. They are pure and free. They may empower us in the light or comfort us in the darkness. They watch over us as guardian angels. They bring peace, harmony, and love to the world.

The Angel Series is a new journey of artistic exploration, drawing on all the things I love to paint, expressed in a new way for a changing world. I’m layering favorite elements including faces, drapery, nature, and abstracts to express my deepest thoughts. Inspired by angels, they are large so that you can really feel their positive presence in your home and live with them like a friend. These paintings are the embodiment of my life’s work to bring more love and happiness to the world. May they bring you a lifetime of smiles as they watch over you.
