A warrior and his horse turn to watch two crows fly past. They are messengers of good luck, protection, healing and wealth, representing the unknown and the spirit world. In a moment the crows will be gone with the setting sun, as night envelops the world.
This painting has strong tonal contrasts and subtle color shifts. White feathers and blue cloth complement warm skin tones. The black horse reflects blue from the sky, a dark form against pastel clouds that transition from warm to cool in the sunset light. I enjoyed painting the illusion of detail with distinct brushstrokes.
