This appaloosa horse has the most spectacular coat, with large black spots on his white rump dissolving into black and white mottling on his head and neck. A warm golden saddle sits on a green woven saddle blanket, matching his green rope halter. His bridle and reins are looped over the saddle horn while he waits for work to start.
Appaloosa is part of my ongoing series of working horses waiting for their cowboy or cowgirl. Like this one, they focus on the horse and his gear. They tell the story of the American West, of hardworking people and their horses, of the craftsmen who build saddles and bridles, and the connection between people and horses.
