Phoenix ~ 48"x48" ~ Sanders Galleries

Born of flames and memory, Phoenix rises into a new life in a place that was dreamed into reality. Red hair curls and swirls, alive with the static electricity of her thoughts, while ideas circle like tiny orbs of light among her tresses. Her earrings and the gold embroidery of her gown depict her namesake, the legendary Phoenix bird who lived 500 years before rising again from the ashes of her past. 

This Angel is about turning dreams into reality, and rebuilding a new life. Her red hair was inspired by a painting in my father's home called Flaming June, and she formed in my imagination while the Pacific Palisades burned. Fire became her theme, not as destruction but as an opportunity to renew. As she began, we were building my dream studio, and she is the first painting completed in my new space. Phoenix is also the first Angel with her hair completely unbound, a hopeful metaphor for my freedom from a lifetime of pain, and for the success of new beginnings. 

The Angel Series
Who are these angels? They are everyone and no-one. They are the essence of us all, our deepest thoughts, our higher selves. They come to the world with flaws and failings, as do we all. They learn, they grow, they begin to see beyond the veil and evolve into enlightenment. The bindings hide their inner truths, hold in the pain, but also protect. They are pure and free. They may empower us in the light or comfort us in the darkness. They watch over us as guardian angels. They bring peace, harmony, and love to the world.

The Angel Series is a journey of artistic exploration, drawing on all the things I love to paint, expressed in a new way for a changing world. I’m layering favorite elements including faces, drapery, nature, and patterns to express my deepest thoughts. Inspired by the idea of angels, they are large so that you can really feel their positive presence in your home and live with them like a friend. These paintings are the embodiment of my life’s work to bring more love and happiness to the world, and I hope they will become my masterpieces. May they bring you a lifetime of smiles as they watch over you.
