The Last Wilderness 30"x24" ~ Buffalo Bill Art Show

There's nowhere to look but into his eyes. This grizzly fills the canvas, with every strand of fur built up in thick layers, his nose seeming to protrude from the surface. I painted this from a place that isn't hypothetical for me anymore: I live in grizzly country now, and could meet one face to face almost any day. This painting is about my wild neighbors and the experience of living on the edge of one of the last true wildernesses where large predators still roam freely.
